Portrait Drawing Demonstration by Savannah Tate Cuff

Last night I had the pleasure of attending a portrait demonstration by Savannah Tate Cuff at the Manifest Drawing Center. Savannah is a highly skilled young artist who trained at the Angel Academy in Florence; she is currently studying at the Grand Central Atelier in New York. She is thoroughly charming and it was lovely to watch her drawing unfold.

Horror Vacui at Art NXT Level Projects

Thank you so much to everyone who came to our reception on Friday! Horror Vacui is my two-person show with Adrian Cox, currently installed at Art NXT Level Projects in Chicago. Adrian and I share similar attitudes towards image-making, specifically painting. We both find great beauty and value in somewhat unconventional subject matter, each taking a painterly approach to radically different images. It was a pleasure planning this show with Adrian, and an absolute privilege to have this work installed at Art NXT Level Projects. Many sincere thanks to Sergio Gomez for selecting our exhibition proposal, and thank you Adrian for collaborating on this excellent show!

Rockford Midwestern Biennial

Encore 2015 oil on canvas 24" x 24"

This painting, made almost exactly one year ago, is currently up in the Rockford Midwestern Biennial. I'm thrilled to be included in this show! The reception was this past Friday; I was in Cincinnati celebrating the end of DAAP Camp with my students, but my wonderful mom and excellent friends took photos at the reception. Check it out below!

I have to give a shout out to one of my former students and a dear friend, Kimberly Kuba. She has a new painting in this show as well, and it's a good one. Kimberly has always had a great sense of color and a wonderful affinity for painting. It's such a joy seeing her come into her own as an artist and succeed. Congrats Kimberly! So proud of you.

Parallel Lives: New York <––> Chicago

This weekend Parallel Lives opened in New York. The exhibition is a collaboration between Sergio Gomez and Luis Martin: a group of New York artists showed their work at the Zhou B Art Center in Chicago, and in turn a group of Chicago artists showed their work at Parenthesis Art Space in Brooklyn. I am so grateful and honored to be part of the Chicago crew alongside these fantastic artists.

Friday night we had a VIP reception before the show opened to the public. It was an amazing night; it was lovely to spend time with the other Chicago artists, and an absolute pleasure getting to know our New York counterparts. We really do lead parallel lives - there are so many pockets of artist communities around the world, all striving to make their best work and to leave a lasting impression. It's easy to get caught up in the myopia of a solitary studio life, and it is so invigorating and inspiring to meet other artists who share this path, albeit several hundred miles to the east.
